Professor Karen Simmer AO, co-director for the CNRE, was awarded with the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2015, as an officer in the general division of the Order of Australia. The Order of Australia recognises those who have made outstanding contributions to benefit our community and the country.

The fellowship is awarded to individuals with distinguished professional achievements in a field related to health and/or medicine. Being awarded a fellowship in the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences is a measure of prestige that recognises Professor Karen Simmer’s expertise and research quality.

Associate Professor Jane Pillow, co-director for the CNRE, was awarded the Senior Medical Research Fellowship from the Viertel Charitable Foundation in 2006.
The Foundation's Senior Medical Research Fellowship is intended to be amongst the most prestigious awards for those pursuing to continue a career in medical research in Australia. The fellowship is a 5 year initiative, and is intended to provide both salary and project grant support for exceptional Australian medical researchers.

Clinical A/Professor Tobias Strunk was awarded a fellowship in the fifth round of the Department of Health/Raine Medical Research Foundation Clinician Research Fellowship program.
The program is an initiative of the Department of Health in conjunction with the Raine Medical Research Foundation, which enables the clinicians to step away from some of their clinical duties to focus on their research. A/Prof Tobias Strunk is investigating a promising medication’s potential to reduce the harmful long-term effects of infection.

The Perron Rotary Express Milk Bank (PREM Bank) was established at the King Edward Memorial Hospital by Dr Benjamin Hartmann and Professor Karen Simmer AO in 2006. It is Australia's first contemporary human milk bank, which has provided more than 8,500 litres of donor milk to premature babies since it opened in 2006.
The PREM Bank was the inaugural winner of the 'Director General's Choice Award' at the Healthy WA Awards 2007, recognising the clinical service that provided the greatest benefit to patients in 2007.
Additionally, the PREM Bank was the winner of the 2008 Premier's Awards for Excellence in Public Sector Management in the category 'Creating a Healthy, Safe and Vibrant Western Australia'.
The PREM Bank is now renowned internationally for leading a safe human milk banking system, and continues to support mothers who may initially struggle to provide enough milk for their baby after delivering prematurely.
